Key measures include:<\/p>\n<ul data-spread=\"true\">\n<li><strong>Increase in rail freight traffic:<\/strong> aim to double the share of rail freight transport by 2050, contributing to a significant reduction in emissions and road congestion.<\/li>\n<li><strong>High-speed rail network:<\/strong> construction and modernization of railway lines designed for a minimum speed of <strong>160 km\/h<\/strong> for passengers and for greater competitiveness compared to short-haul flights.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/ERTMS\">ERTMS system (European Rail Traffic Management System)<\/a>:<\/strong> Mandatory implementation by 2030 for the core network and 2050 for the global network. This system will ensure greater interoperability, safety, and reduced operating costs.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Eliminating bottlenecks:<\/strong> Targeted interventions to eliminate infrastructure bottlenecks and strengthen strategic cross-border connections, improving the flow of goods and passengers.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Multimodal connections:<\/strong> Integrating rail terminals with ports, airports, and inland waterways to promote more efficient and sustainable logistics.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Other priority issues<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h4><strong>Waterways and maritime transport<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul data-spread=\"false\">\n<li>Strengthening port infrastructure and inland waterways, with a focus on low-impact solutions.<\/li>\n<li>Closer connections between seaports and the rail network to promote intermodal transport.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Road transport<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul data-spread=\"false\">\n<li>Creation of safe and modern rest areas along the main road corridors.<\/li>\n<li>Installing alternative fuel infrastructure, promoting the transition to electric and hydrogen vehicles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Urban nodes and sustainable mobility<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul data-spread=\"false\">\n<li>Mandatory adoption of <strong>Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs)<\/strong> to reduce the environmental impact in urban centers.<\/li>\n<li>Promoting active mobility, with dedicated infrastructure for bicycles and pedestrians.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Innovation and digitalization<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The regulation promotes the adoption of advanced technologies to improve the efficiency and sustainability of transport:<\/p>\n<ul data-spread=\"false\">\n<li><strong>Emerging Technologies:<\/strong> implementation of innovative solutions such as Hyperloop, logistics drones, and autonomous vehicles.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Digitization:<\/strong> creation of interoperable systems for multimodal traffic management and electronic ticketing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Geopolitical dimension<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The current geopolitical context affects the TEN-T network:<\/p>\n<ul data-spread=\"false\">\n<li><strong>Integration with Ukraine and Moldova:<\/strong> strengthening connections to support their economies and facilitate their integration into the EU.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Connections to Russia and Belarus suspended:<\/strong> review of infrastructure priorities in response to the geopolitical situation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Implementation and monitoring<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Member States shall ensure:<\/p>\n<ul data-spread=\"false\">\n<li>Strategic planning in line with the objectives of the regulation.<\/li>\n<li>Socioeconomic and environmental assessments of projects, with priority given to cross-border connections.<\/li>\n<li>Effective allocation of financial resources, supported by dedicated European funds.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Regulation (EU) 2024\/1679 represents the cornerstone of a momentous transformation in the European transport system.
